St. Augustine
As the oldest, continuously occupied European settlement in the United States, St. Augustine has played varied and prominent historic roles. Juan Ponce de Leon, in search of the legendary Fountain of Youth, landed in this area April 3, 1513, an took possession of the region for Spain.

In 1565 King Phillip II sent Pedro Menendez de Aviles to colonize the new territory. Menendez de Aviles arrived in Florida on the Feast Day of Saint Augustine and named the landing site after the saint. Possession changed hands between Spanish and British rule until the end of Spanish rule in Florida in  in 1821.

Throughout its 5 centuries, St Augustine has played a key role in many pivotal events in American history, including the Civil War, the Seminal Wars, the Civil Rights movement and more. This rich historical legacy is evident in almost every square foot of America's oldest city and presents
educational opportunities that are unrivaled by any place else.
